Today we were having a conversation about how fun it is to be a child. The carefree, barefoot, summer days with no worries; the excitement of everything being new and having your entire future still out there in front of you. It's too bad that we can't realize and appreciate this while we are still children, that it takes becoming an adult to help you appreciate the curiosity of growing up. I suppose that's why we have our own children, so that we can live vicariously through them and help foster understanding and appreciation of the world out there waiting for them. If you ask Adri if she enjoys being a child she will answer with a resounding "YES!". Ask her precisely why and she will tell you it's because "You get to be naughty when you're a kid. You get to make your Mommy and Daddy crazy when you don't listen." Yup, she's the reason for our gray hairs. ;)
Well, this is the end of summer vacation for Mommy. I've spent a good part of today going through my teaching things to separate the middle school things from things I can use in my 3rd grade class. My boxes are loaded into the car and I'm ready to get into that classroom and set up this week!!! I can't believe we are so close to the start of a new school year!!! I love this part of the year; meeting my new class, getting to know them, planning, setting up my classroom, etc. It's also bittersweet because Adri and Sam are going back to daycare/preschool where someone else will get to spend the entire day with them, enjoying their curiosity and wonder and observing all of the newness that comes with each day. I try to remember that I am in that same position with other people's children, that I am spending the whole day with 30 or so little ones who's parents are probably missing them the entire day also.
We tried to pack in as many adventures as possible in this last week, knowing that we wouldn't be spending much time together as a family in the next couple of weeks (between work, my Master's class starting, starting of school, and after school activities). Here's some of the pictures of our "end of summer" stay-cation. :)
Townsend Park is one of our favorite spots to play. Mommy and Daddy were married here, so we always like to tell the kids about our wedding. :)
I'll help you Sammy, come on.
Wow! That's really high!
Stop Adri! I'll fall!!!
Good picture of Daddy...The best I could get the kids to do. :)
Oh no! Sam fell asleep!!!
On Friday we went to "A Day out with Thomas" and rode a Thomas the Train. Sam was over the moon excited to spend the day riding the train!
Sam's heaven, lots of trains!!!
I KNOW this isn't really a Thomas the Train!
Best picture of the day...Adri getting lectured in the background. :)
Adri's complacent because they actually stopped this train when she tried to stick her hands out of it to touch the side...
Today we had a cookout in the beautiful weather (and rain) at Nana and Papa's.
LOVE Matt's expression in the background!
Adri-ism: Mom do I look like a mermaid?
And some love for Sandy, who's busy eating a T-bone and still lets Adri grab her. One GREAT dog!!!
Nana's impression of Daddy...
Super Sam!
A Mommy never stops loving her babies...
This is my attempt to chronicle our family's daily adventures, love, and struggles.
It is my hope that one day Adri and Sammy will read these stories of their childhood and remember the love, happiness, and adoration that was poured into it each and every day. The two of them are the sunshine in my day and the happiness that has completed my life.
