Another hot one!

Where did Spring go? Did we have one here in Michigan or did we go straight from Winter to 90 degree temperatures? Today was another record temperature day in Michigan, hitting over 90 degrees for the second day in a row! I'm not a huge fan of this muggy, hot weather, but I'll take it over ice, sleet and snow any day!

The kids and I waited until late afternoon before venturing outdoors to play (not that it was any cooler, but at least there was more shade). Adri begged to fill up the pool and so she splashed around in the freezing cold water while Sammy stayed in the sandbox, attempted to escape, or splashed in mud puddles he found around the pool. All in all it was a pretty relaxing day even though Adri didn't get a nap.

Here's my proof that there's a paci hoarder that's taken up residence in our house! I didn't even know she had it until much later when she gave it to me saying "I'm sorry for taking the paci Mommy, here you go" as she handed it to me. (I didn't realize she had had it that long until I was going through these pictures tonight) Look closely in her hands...You can tell she's just hoping I don't notice and she can sneak off and hide it.

Poor Sam Man has a horrible reaction to mosquito bites! He now has these huge red spots all over from his time outdoors yesterday and today.

This boy loves sticks. He loves them more when he can throw them down sewers or in a pool and watch them float. He has an abundance of curiosity.

Adri, on the hand, plays much differently. She is extremely into the realistic play at this point and can act out scenes with just about anything. Here she's playing with her new toy animal, a parakeet.

Beautiful flowers that Adri picked to give to me. Yeah, they're weeds, but the very fact that she thought of me and took the time out of playing to pick them and give them to me makes them the most beautiful flowers in the world.

Sammy plots what he can do to Adri in the next half hour to make her throw a huge temper tantrum...Maybe if I tear apart her train when we get inside...Yeah! That'll get her pretty mad!

Score one for Adri! She splashes water right into poor Sam's face!
From Summer 2011

The look on Sam's face is not one of joy. Adri on the hand, looks like she's having the time of her life.
From Summer 2011

Oh! She is so in for it! When we get inside I'm tearing apart her train! Every time she gets it back together I'm going to go all "Godzilla" on her and tear it apart again! (And he did...)

Oh Sammers, don't cry! I'm sorry Bud! Is Mom looking while I do this?

Oh come on Mama, don't be such a party pooper! I won't swallow it!

Paci Hoarder

Over the weekend, our house has acquired a sneaky little pacifier hoarder. I won't name any names, but I think we all know who I'm talking about. :)

This sly little girl has been able to sneak pacifiers for nap and bedtime by hiding them under her "stinky" blanky and then putting the blanket up to her face to make it look like she's chewing on it (which she usually does), although what she's really doing is hiding the pacifier in her mouth under her blanky.

Getting a pacifier isn't a problem for her since they are scattered everywhere in the house, sitting in the exact place that Sammy dropped/spit them out, just waiting for the next time he's in desperate need (or someone else needs a paci fix).

The first time she did this I thought she was acting strangely, but didn't say anything until I noticed that she had her blanket up to her mouth but wasn't chewing on the edge of it. Our conversation went a little something like this:

Me: Adri, what are you doing? Do you have something?
Adri (with a mouth full of pacifier) No.
Me: Yes you do! What's in your mouth? What do you have under your blanket?
Adri (trying to pull her blanket back before I find the pacifier in her mouth): No! Don't! I need it! Please!
Me: You have a pacifier!!! What?!?!? Why do you have a pacifier in your mouth?
Adri: I'm just a little girl! I need it!
Me: You don't need it. You're a big girl and it's going to ruin your teeth if you keep sucking on it.
Adri: Fine. But I want a baba.

When I asked her what was in her mouth I honestly didn't expect for it to be a pacifier. I thought she had taken a snack or gum and was hiding that. Unbelievable! Since this Friday occurrence we've caught her in the act two more times. I keep reminding her that she's a big girl and she counteracts by behaving like the paci is some wonderful drug that she's addicted to and can't live without.

We are going to have to watch her closely, very closely.

Another recent development for Adri is that she has given up her afternoon nap. This has me feeling a little sad. Not only because this was my cuddle time with her, but because she's growing up! I'm not ready for her to be a big girl! Why does it have to happen so quickly? Getting her to sleep at night has been a lot easier as well as the lack of stress at nap time when I attempted to convince her that she needed a nap and she would just as convincingly tell me that "her eyes won't close".

So I'm going to have a tea party...So what? Wait! Don't tell my Dad!

Don't start the tea party without me guys! Do you hear me? I'm on my way down!
From Summer 2011

Did you hear me? Adri! Anyone? Wait for me!!!
From Summer 2011

I bet I could climb this if Mom would let me...That might be a quicker way down to my tea party...

Forget the tea party! I found WATER!
From Summer 2011

Hahaha! I got my hand wet! That water's a little cold!
From Summer 2011

That's ok. A little cold water never hurt anyone. I'm tough!

Oh look! A sewer! I'm just going to stick my head in the puddle here and see what happens.

I eat and then the food goes in my tummy. Then my tummy says STOP and I have to run to the bathroom.

Mommy I'm getting to be a big girl. But I'm trying to be a little girl.

Mommy you'll be my baby forever.

(Hearing thunder) Mommy! God is yelling! He's angry that someone's not listening. But I'm listening!

Mom, I'm waiting patiently for an M&M, do you see me?

No one can take my brother because he would miss me and I would miss him.

Mommy, can I pee outside like Sam? Can I go poo poo outside too?
