Best Friends

I love making things special, especially that rare time that I get to spend with each child alone. When I decided to take Adri alone over to Rochester Hills for our monthly sleepover, I knew I was going to try to do something to make it completely memorable. Apparently Sara had the same idea, because she made it into the most fantastic trip for us!

We went boating on Sara's parent's pontoon boat the evening that we got there. Adri was beyond excited for this because Eli and Evan's "Papa" allowed her to steer the boat for a good portion of the time. For a three year old, it really doesn't get any more exciting that that! (Mama was a bit scared though when we went this way and that with zero predictability.) We also went swimming and she had the opportunity to "swim" under the pontoon boat in the secret space. A way too short boat ride later, (the kids were tired and ready to get off) and a viewing of some of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen (including Kid Rock's Dad's house), we went back to Sara's, where the kids played pretty much until they crashed.

The next day brought the Rochester Farmer's Market and breakfast out. (Not sure what we were thinking bringing three ticking time bombs into a restaurant...Especially two named Adri and Eli--who completely feed off each other). The kids did good until they were done eating, when they began repeating each other and getting loud. Needless to say, Sara and I herded them out of there with a quickness.

On our way home, we decided to stop at Great Lakes Crossing Mall. LOVE this mall. It's an upscale, humongous, indoor mall turned into outlet mall. I wanted it to be memorable, so Adri and I introduced Adri to Coach where she picked out a bag, wallet, and sunglasses for me and then I ended up walking out with nothing, just like I always do. I just can't justify buying those purses at those prices when I'm not particularly fond of them.

We visited the Disney store where Adri picked out Toy Story toys. Toy Story seems to be her latest craze. (She ended up role playing with them a good portion of the way home and then the rest of the night and yesterday. She is IN LOVE with these toys.)

Our last stop was the Rainforest Cafe. I wanted to get dessert with Adri so we could enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant. After much oohing and aahing in front of the fish tank to the restaurant entrance, Adri and I were seated next to a very large fish tank. She did really well, except for getting a little scared when the gorillas and elephants began talking to each other. I had to keep repeating that they weren't real.

We ordered the most spectacular dessert. It was called the Volcano something or other and came with a sparkler on the top. Adri seemed a little intimidated when they came out with it, but that could have been because they scream when they bring it out and everyone watches you (which I didn't know beforehand) or it could have been the massive amounts of brownie and huge sparkler shooting sparks every which way. It's really hard to say. She absolutely had zero qualms about digging into it after the sparkler was finished and removed though. We sat there and ate some of it, enjoying every single delectable bite. This was when Adri looked at me and said "Mama! This is just like my birthday today! It's very special!"
I told her it was her "un-birthday" and that it was just as special to me and that I was having so much fun.

I honestly doubt we could have had a more special time alone together. I'd do anything for that little girl and only wish she feels that every day is as special as this one that we shared together.

If your mouth isn't watering right now I'll add that that scoop on the top is actually homemade whip cream. :) Most of the dessert came home to Matt and Sam.
