Charlevoix and Traverse City; A tale of two parents' first night away...

Disclaimer: In this post you will find many pictures that contain two very happy and relaxed parents. If you can't handle seeing this type of scene, please discontinue reading. :)

Matt and I braved our very first night away from the kids on Friday. Yes, the honest truth; our first night away in three and a half years.

We'd barely been away to have dinner together, so it came as no surprise to us that we'd never spent a night away from the kids. Matt thought it was due time, so he planned an overnight trip to Charlevoix and Traverse City with, wait for it...Just he and I.

Max went to my Mom's to recover from his loss of his manhood surgery, while the kids stayed home with Mary Jo and Shannon. We weren't even allowed to call home, instead we were instructed to have a great time and not worry.

Easier said than done. On the way to Charlevoix our conversation went something like this:

Me: Should I text Mary Jo and make sure the kids are ok?

Matt: No, they're fine. Don't worry about them.

Me: What if they're upset we're gone?

Matt: They're not. They didn't even get up to watch us leave. Stop worrying.

By the end of our trip our conversation went something like this:

Matt: Are you sure you want to go home right now? We could stay out longer. We could stop somewhere else before we go home.

Me: We could. We don't have to be home yet, you know. :)

Our trip was fantastic. We began by going to Charlevoix and walking around the town, browsing the stores, and getting our favorite ice cream at Kilwin's. We then walked down the pier to the lighthouse, stopping to watch the drawbridge open to let through the large boats.

We continued by going to the Park Shore Hotel in Traverse City and eating at the Red Mesa Grille, our favorite restaurant in TC. We've never dared to brave it with our ticking time bomb(s), so it's been a long time since we've been able to eat there.

A walk on the beach at sunset and sitting out on the patio listening to the waves crash as night fell completed our night. All in all it was an amazing day.

The next morning we went into downtown TC and browsed the stores before going to the beach to find Adri the rocks we promised her. As I looked into the water of the well combed beach I immediately found a Petoskey stone, which seemed to surprise Matt. Sometimes I get lucky, but it doesn't happen that often. :)

When we came home we found that the house was spotless (how did you keep it clean Mary Jo and Shannon???), our back door had been fixed (THANK YOU Papa!!! I've been begging Matt for weeks!), and Shannon had dinner in the oven for us (It was the most delicious dinner!!! Will you come and cook here more often???).

Thank you everyone for helping us get a night away. We couldn't have done it without your help. It made all the difference in the world for both Matt and I and we are so grateful!!!

Yes, I have photos of stuff. I loved these flowers and thought they were the epitome of happiness with their bright colors. So there, they have a purpose now.

Adri-isms:

I'm going inside. I just can't deal with you right now Dad.

As a black cat ran across the street:
Hands up to head--Oh me gosh, Oh me gosh! I just can't believe it! Where did that cat come from? I just can't figure it out!

We don't pull doggy tales. They don't like it. And we don't tease dogs. That's not nice.
