Best behavior

I had high hopes for getting things done today.  I have a lot to do between my two grad classes and planning both of the kids' birthday parties, so I really wanted to cross some of those to-do tasks off my list this afternoon.  In my mind, I had aspirations of getting Adri's hair cut, going for lunch, heading out to 28th street to order Adri's birthday cake, pick out a dress for her, and find fabric to re-do our stain covered dining room chairs (it's amazing what a child can do to furniture in a matter of minutes when you're not looking).  What we actually accomplished was getting Adri's hair cut and then eating lunch.  So much for high hopes.  :)  I think it's time to learn a little time management here.

I decided to bring the kids inside Wendy's to eat.  I'm not sure what I was thinking, taking both of them in there alone to sit and eat.  Most of our restaurant trips end in disaster with both kids in meltdown mode and food all over the floor and table.  Those trips always include Matt's help too.  I'm so proud to say that both of the kids were angels while we were in the restaurant.  Absolute 100% angels.

Adri was so helpful and lovingly fed her brother the entire time, sharing her food and then her ice cream.  Sammy ate his food and played along with Adri, even when she pried his mouth open to look at his "toofers".  I'm not sure if I just stunned the kids by bringing them into a restaurant alone (not something I've ever done before-unless we were meeting someone else) or if they were being especially good because there was a large group of very elderly women sitting close by watching their every move and smiling as they made comments about their own children when they were younger and their grandchildren now.  Either way, I breathed a huge sigh of relief as we were getting ready to leave and both kids were still on their best behavior.

One of the elderly women came up to our table to talk to the kids and tell me how adorable and well behaved they were.  I told her thank you and then thought "you haven't seen them on a bad day or when they're hungry or tired".  :)  I didn't have to wait long to see  normal children again.  When I got both of them buckled into the car the meltdowns began...Sammy started crying because he was so tired.  He eventually fell asleep, but quickly woke up when Adri started screaming "Sammy wake up!  Wake up!  Open your eyes!" over and over.  Thank goodness home wasn't far away.

This evening I was eager to get to the errands that hadn't been completed earlier.  Matt and Adri had other plans.  Everyone wanted to be outside.  There was no way that I could leave to do errands when the rest of the family was outside playing.  We went and got dinner and then brought it to a park to play.  I'm so glad we decided to have family time instead...And, lucky me, my errands are still there waiting.  :)

I did end up running errands tonight with Adri after we got back, although once again I didn't complete nearly as much as I wanted to.  I did figure out that Adri just doesn't care what kind of birthday cake she gets, so we're not going to worry about getting a character one.  :)  Whew, that takes care of one problem!!!
