DRAMA!
Adri can't handle not getting enough sleep. I mean, she turns into this grouchy bear who can't listen and deliberately does things you ask her not to do. Add the incessant whining into that and it's a recipe for disaster.
Our day started with Adri whining because she wanted warm milk. After she finished drinking that, she moved on to her room where she changed her mind about which tutu she wanted wear, each time I pulled it off the hanger for her. I finally became annoyed and just left the room after telling her that she didn't need a skirt to wear at that moment. Apparently she decided it was necessary because I heard her screaming at the top of her lungs as she tried to get it off the hanger. I'm not sure what or how she was getting them off, but she ended up pulling down two skirts and breaking about four of the hangers. She did get the skirt she wanted though...without my help.
Adri then decided she was hungry and wanted cereal. I poured the cereal and she said she didn't want milk. As I put the milk away she decided she did in fact, want it. So I pulled it back out and poured it in her bowl, the entire time she was telling me exactly how much to pour. She picked out the chocolate pieces and decided she wasn't hungry for cereal any longer. This time her loudness woke up her brother, who wasn't due to wake up for at least another hour.
I brought Sammy out and fed him a banana, which of course Adri also had to have some of (even though she was no longer hungry just a few short minutes before). He then ate a waffle, which I also had to make for Adri. All except for one tiny bite was wasted.
After we finished breakfast we all got ready (which included Sammy coming into the bathroom for his morning toilet flushing and toilet paper unraveling) and, against my better judgment, headed to Meijer Gardens to meet Aunt Kathy. I had a feeling it wasn't going to go well (with my suspicions confirmed when Adri jumped into a mud puddle right before I caught her to put her in the car). I had a long conversation with her in the car on the way there that went something like this:
Me: Adri, you need to be on your best behavior at the Gardens.
Adri: Uh huh...Look Mommy! There's lots of trees!
Me: There's going to be lots of people there Adri.
Adri: Oh Mommy! We're up so high! Are we up high?
Me: I need you to use your walking feet and listening ears. Can you do that for me?
Adri...Yup. Sammy!!! Sammy wake up! Open your eyes! Can you see me? (All in a high pitched squeal)
Me: Please be good Adri, please, for Mama?
Adri: Look Mommy! We're at the Gardens! (Just as we're pulling into the gate)
And so started Adri's wild rumpus. She ran around inside of the gardens, didn't listen, and made me feel like an absolute nut case by the time we left there. I know it's my fault, I shouldn't have brought her when I so obviously knew that she hadn't gotten enough sleep. This is basically the only time she becomes extremely naughty (that and when she's hungry) and I should have just left when things got out of hand, but I didn't. We stayed and visited.
By the time we had finished looking at the butterflies, ate our snack, and were sitting in the foyer; Adri had pulled off her tutu, taken off her shoes and was crawling all around the floor like a mental patient on a night with a full moon. It was time to get out of there before the Volunteer Nazi's kicked us out. :)
I brought the kids home, quickly fed them lunch and put both down for a nap...Adri slept for perhaps an hour before waking up her brother and spending the rest of the afternoon in meltdown mode.
Needless to say, when Matt got home it was the kind of a day that I needed to cash in my weekly "get out of the house free" pass. I passed the kids to him, gave everyone a kiss and got away to relax...
A few pictures from our day...
Adri's picture of Kathy...It's too bad the camera was still adjusting to the humidity.

Adri and Kathy check out the butterflies in the Monarch exhibit. Adri begged the volunteer to take the butterfly out so she could see it better (and probably pet it)

Adri checks out the butterfly (moth?)'s wings--they resemble the head of a snake!

Adri's quiet moment of the day...Don't worry, it only lasted five minutes. :)

Sammy dumps out his blocks since Adri's not around to entertain him...

He's pretty angry that Adri won't get back on the floor and play...

In order to get the drama started again, Sammy steals Adri's water. This is the last picture I was able to take, so you can imagine what happened from there. :)
