Saugatuck

Matt suggested a trip to Saugutuck today. I took him up on his offer, forgetting the last visit we had there when Adri was Sam's age. The crying, tantrum throwing, heat, and general miserableness.

This visit wasn't much different except for the fact that Matt was there with us (the last time I had been there with Shannon and Jan) and he played with the kids on the playground while I went to a couple of stores. We then went and got ice cream from Kilwin's, my main motive for going to Saugatuck. They have the most fantastic ice cream and fresh, hot, waffle cones. You can't get anything like it around here.

Our ice cream was amazing. The visit inside to get the ice cream? Not so much. Adri wanted chocolate ice cream. Her very favorite. So, Matt ordered ice cream in a bowl with a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla. The final product ended up being vanilla with chocolate sauce over the top. This mistake sent Adri over the top. :) She began screaming and throwing a fit because it wasn't the chocolate ice cream she requested. I was going to bring it back, but Matt wouldn't let me. He figured Adri would be ok, I felt like they needed to correct their mistake. Adri did end up eating it, but there was a lot of screaming and whining involved before she decided she liked it and had to share with Sammy.

By the end of our trip both kids were exhausted and had thrown multiple temper tantrums because of this. Adri fell over the sidewalk (must have jumped right out in front of her!) and spilled ice cream everywhere, causing her to cry for most of the ride home.

I'm thinking the next visit to Saugutuck with be adult only. I've been convinced that it's not a place for kids. :)

Next up tomorrow: the beach! Thinking of heading out to Muskegon again to play in the water, provided it doesn't rain as forecast.

Adri decides to do something so unlike Adri and pull the chair across the entire deck area. Sammy looks on in disbelief.

Unfortunately I have no photos of the ice cream...This was the time everything came unraveled and we were trying to console Adri and her vanilla ice cream.
