I don't think I'm going to live Mama!

Tonight we went to feed the ducks at Riverside Park as we have done for years upon years in the past. Apparently, there is a new rule at the park that says you cannot feed the water fowl. I, like everyone else at the park, decided to disregard the sign and go about letting my three year old feed the extremely tame ducks and geese who came up to take the food from her hand. I mean, seriously, do they think the birds are just going to go away now after they have relied on people for their entire lives? Seriously smart people of the city and county parks, if you didn't want the ducks around, you probably should have posted these rules years ago. :)

Adri and her friend Lilah went through about six bags of stale bread, throwing a lot of it out in entire pieces. See? The ducks and geese are working for their food! They have to break it apart when Adri and Lilah feed them! (Also don't forget the dodging of bread that is required when the girls throw it to them. If they aren't careful, they end up getting hit with the bread instead of it falling nicely at their feet.)

After they finished throwing out all of the bags of bread (and begging for more, even though the other bread was sitting there in piles with none of the ducks or geese eating it because they were either full and/or scared of the girls (my vote is on the latter)), Lilah and Adri decided to run down the cement parking blocks. Lilah is pretty graceful for a four year old and made it down to the end without falling. Adri, on the other hand, well, she's three and still learning. :) She of course lost her footing and fell, scraping her knee in the process.

(Enter dramatic girl looking for a lot of sympathy) Adri is screaming at the top of her lungs (can you tell she rarely gets hurt?) that she hurt her knee, she has an owie, it hurts. As she's screaming this, she's limping along and decides she can no longer walk because it hurts too much. I pick her up and try to calm her down (which of course doesn't work).

Me: We're going to need to clean your owie and put a band aid on it when we get home.

Adri: No!!! It's hurts! No band aid! No medicine! Ow, Ow, Ow!

Me: Are you going to be ok Adri? Do we need to bring you to the hospital?

Adri: No! No hospital! I don't think I'm going to live Mama. It hurts really bad!

I bring her home and explain what happened to Matt, begging him to wash her scratch and put a band aid and medicine on it. He agrees and struggles with her to accomplish this task, all the while she's screaming bloody murder like he's doing surgery on her knee with no anesthesia.

After he finishes, Adri decides she wants to be rocked in the rocking chair because she's so emotional. She asks Matt to rock her. (I was completely surprised by this, since she usually asks me and Matt was the one that just caused her more pain.) Matt of course rocked with her, smirking because he got to cuddle her in her moment of need. I think he enjoyed every second of their bonding time.

When they finish rocking, Adri sits on the couch to watch a movie and rest her leg. All of our neighbors were out doing things in their yards, so I decided to bring Sammy outside to talk to some of them.

Me: Adri, do you want to go outside? Sammy and I are going to go outside.
Adri: I can't Mommy, I have an owie on my knee. It hurts!
Me: Ok. Enjoy your movie! We'll come back in a little bit.
Adri: (moving her leg) Oh look! I can move it! It feels all better! I can go outside now! Yay!

Before I know it, she has her shoes on and is running outside getting her helmet to ride her bike. Her scratch and all the pain it caused has been completely forgotten and she's outdoors enjoying herself. You gotta love the art of distraction. :)

Adri-isms:

Adri: Mommy, what do Panda Bears say?
Me: I don't know Adri.
Adri: We'll have to ask Daddy...He knows everything. Maybe he knows what deers say too?

I love you Sammers! What are you doing little man? I'm going to get you!

Thank you Mommy for buying me this dress! It's just beautiful!
